Somebody Help Me
Before I Hurt My
Child!!.
Almost every mother has
experienced an overwhelming, uncontrollable anger while trying to meet
the demands of parenting. This is a story of a young mother who lost
control of her "monster" within. It is a narrative of child abuse from
the viewpoint of the forgotten victim: the screaming, out-of-control
parent.
Lu, a teenaged mother, adored her children and tried to be
kind, gentle and loving to them. But she struggled daily with a rage
borne of frustration. Periodically, this rage manifested itself in an
explosive fury so intense that she gave it a name, Mona the Monster,
in her attempt to rationalize the consequences of her cruel actions.
Although Lu thought of "Mona" as an actual demon possessing her, her
angry behavior was really a result of many factors including her youth,
inexperience at effective mothering skills, and frustration at falling
short of her "ideals."
As Lu gained maturity—and with the help of God, family and
good neighbors—she learned how to master this monstrous rage "within."
But it took a near-tragedy before "Mona" was banished forever, finally
leaving only Lu in control and able to cope with the demands of
motherhood. And, with God's help, parents can break the cycle of child
abuse, or, better yet, keep it from ever happening.
This book tells the sad, bad beginning of Mona/Lu and the
Bauer family, but this story has a happy ending. Readers may also be
interested in Cherish Every Moment (Seaboard Press, 2009) which
tells the rest of this happily-ever-after story of terror and salvation.
